Remote Regional Workshop Tour

Field Notes from Emilie, Creative Director/Owner of House of Hobby

There’s something different about running workshops outside of the city.

The pace shifts. People linger a little longer. Conversations unfold more naturally. And creativity feels less like a “skill” and more like something shared.

Recently House of Hobby went on tour in WA’s Pilbara, travelling to Karratha, Pannawonica and Onslow in The Shire of Ashburton Western Australia, delivering creative workshops for local community groups.

Each stop is a little different, but the intention stays the same. To create a space where people can slow down, make something with their hands, and connect.

On the Ground

There’s something really special about creating together in places that feel vast, rugged, and incredibly beautiful.
What a privilege to travel with these workshops and meet so many wonderful people.

Workshops might take place in a community hall, a library, or as part of a regional event. Sometimes it’s a full room, sometimes it’s a small group, but the feeling is always similar.

A bit of curiosity at the start.
A quiet focus as people settle in.
Then conversation, laughter, and that moment where someone says, “I didn’t think I could do this.”

We run beginner-friendly, hands-on creative workshops, including:

  • Watercolour painting

  • Location inspired Canvas paint & sips

  • Seasonal creative experiences

  • Mindful Crafting sessions

Everything is provided. No experience needed.

Why It Matters

Access to creative workshops in regional WA isn’t always easy.

These sessions aren’t about perfect outcomes. They’re about:

  • Taking a break from the everyday

  • Supporting mental wellbeing in a simple, practical way

  • Creating connection within communities

  • Building confidence through trying something new

It’s often the small moments that stay with people, the conversations, the quiet focus, the shared experience of making something.

Partnerships

The trip was made possible through partnerships with local councils and community organisations.

Workshops can be adapted to suit different communities, age groups, and spaces, and are designed to be easy to host.

If You’re Reading This

If you’re part of a regional community, council, or event and thinking, this could work here—it probably can.

You can get in touch to bring the a workshop to your area.

I’d love to come visit,

Emilie
