Our Hobbies crushes & how to make them! Part 1

This is a blog post where we tell you, how to create items on your Pinterest board! We want to help you achieve your wildest creative dreams and feel empowered to make beautiful items that you are crushing on.

1.Embroidered boots

These boots by @abigail_and_lauren are such a vibe. Lauren is a Tassie artists who specialises in adding a feminine touch to work boots.

How to make a pair of your own:
Come up with a design, or buy an embroidery kit. Trace your pattern onto the elastic part of the boots using chalk.
Embroider your design onto the boots, like you would cloth, no hoop required. If your elastic is thin tear away interfacing may also help.

If you’re a beginner, we’d suggest finding a kit which contains everything you need to get started, including a ‘How-to’ for basic techniques.

2. Sun Dyed Jeans

Have you ever heard of a process called Cyanotype? It’s one of the oldest photographic processes there are, and it’s making a come back. It’s a chemical process which uses the sun to print shadows onto fabric & paper.

How to make a pair of your own:
You’ll need a cyanotype kit to get started. Grab an old pair of jeans and make sure they are clean. You’ll need a few days for this project from start to finish, to allow for drying times and making up the solution.
Once you’ve made the solution paint your jeans with it, this will be the dark blue background. While that’s drying (in the dark) pick some of your favourite flowers. Place the flowers on top of the painted section, then stick the jeans and flowers out in the sun. It can help to secure items with glass or rocks if you live somewhere windy. Once processed (follow the kit instructions for timings) wash your jeans and leave to set.

3. Knitted Bag

Don’t worry, you don’t need any knitting skills for this project. Using knitting looms make knitting projects like this super speedy. We love these knitting looms and 8ply (minimum) yarn.

How to make one for yourself:
Using a large circle loom, follow instructions to cast on, weave to your designed length, changing colours as you go. Cast off at the end and secure with a knot.
Stitch together one end and add handles.

BONUS This project is a great way to use left over yarn and create striped like this project.

4. Hand Painted Candles

Painted candles are the next big thing in the candle world. Best of all you can customise them to your hearts delight and they make the sweetest gifts.

How to make them:
Get some pillar candles, either white or coloured. Collect some inspiration and sketch out your designs. Once you’ve decided what to theme to decorate your candles in, use acrylic paints or paint pens to customise your candles.

Let the paint dry and they are ready to use.

Enjoy your hobby time! We’d love to see your creations tag us on Instagram or share this blog post with a loved one.
